Whether you are interested in purchasing the new Mercedes Benz 2019 G63 AMG, or simply have a passion for all things car related, this review will inform you of everything you need to know about this new and impressive supercar.
The Mercedes Benz 2019 G63 AMG: How did we get here?
The Mercedes Benz G class was originally developed as a military vehicle but has since evolved to make it suitable for civilian use. It’s distinctive boxy styling, and body-on-frame construction has grown in popularity since its conception and is now one of the most luxurious car styles on the market. If you want a taste of travelling in style, why not consider luxury supercar hire London where you can choose from a number of vehicles, including the McLaren 720S and Audi R8 V10 Spyder.
The original 460-series G-Wagon first went on sale in 1979 with the choice of three body styles: two-door short wheelbase (SWB) convertible, two-door SWB wagon and a long wheelbase four-door wagon. This model was especially popular with military and off-road enthusiasts and led to over 50,000 being built within the first ten years.
In 1989, the G-Class saw a full revision and introduced many new features to the range, such as standard anti-lock brakes, a permanent full-wheel drive system and electronically-locking differentials. Since then, Mercedes have continued to improve their range which has led to the creation of the new generation of Mercedes Benz G-Class we know today.

As advertised on their website, Mercedes Benz is retailing this model at prices starting from £143,370. Compared to one of its predecessors, the G 350 d, this is around £50,000 more expensive. With such a substantial difference in price, is it really worth the money?
To answer this question, we must compare the G63 to similar cars on the market. The Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic provides a lot of power, an ultra-modern sporty appearance and dynamic features, just like the G63, but is slightly more expensive, costing £144,225. However, the G63 lacks some contemporary features that are slowly becoming standard for high-end vehicles, for example, a proximity key or power cargo door.
Despite not having a proximity key or power cargo door, this car still boasts many innovative features, such as heated front and rear seats, tri-zone automatic climate control and a power sunroof. So, although it is significantly more expensive than previous models, it is not entirely unreasonable.
Initially, the G63 looks quite similar to its G550 counterpart, but they only share the same exterior door handles, headlight-washer sprays and spare tire cover. Compared to the G550, The G63 consists of a 6-inch wider front and rear tracks as well as a Panamerica grille, a lower fascia and 20-inch wheels which definitely make a statement.
A car’s aesthetic is of utmost importance as it will determine your initial opinion of the vehicle. If you don’t like the look of the G63, you should consider supercar hire Luton. With so many car manufacturers to choose from, such as Ferrari and Lamborghini, you are guaranteed to find a car with a unique style and look that you love.
The new G63 provides the ultimate level of comfort thanks to the 1.5 inches of extra leg and shoulder room in the front of the vehicle compared to the previous model. Mercedes offers a variety of equipment packages with this car and you can find all the details here. However, for some brief insight, you could opt for the highly desirable exclusive nappa leather package. This package offers diamond quilting and perforations for the seats and fully leather-finished doors and dashboard. The Active Multicontour seat package which is also included provides a massage function for driver and front passenger.
Alternatively, you could utilise the rear seat entertainment package which consists of installing two 10-inch touchscreens on the backrests. With this, you can then watch films, browse the internet, play video games or listen to music. This is an excellent feature, especially if you have children, as it will make longer journeys more enjoyable.

Technology and Connectivity
This hi-tech luxury car features a 12.3-inch central display which includes an in-dash navigation system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It is also important to note that most commands are readily available from a centrally mounted control knob and touchpad. There are also two small touch points on the left and right of the steering wheel which can control the system’s functions for added convenience.
Performance and Handling
Have you ever heard of a three-ton SUV that can reach 60mph in under 4.5 seconds? Well, now you have. The G63 AMG’s impressive performance is a result of its hand-built, twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine which produces 585hp (430kW) and 850Nm of torque.
The off-road capabilities of this model do not disappoint either, with its nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel-system drive, off-road driving has suddenly become smooth sailing.
The Mercedes Benz 2019 G63 AMG is still yet to be tested by the National Highway Traffic Saftey Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, however, Mercedes have equipped the vehicle with many impressive safety features. These include:
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Rear-cross-traffic alert
- Lane departure warning
- Lane keeping assist
- Automatic high-beam headlights
- Adaptive cruise control
- Forward collision alert with automatic braking and pedestrian detection
All of the aforementioned features are very useful and effective at improving the safety of the driver, passengers and pedestrians, but you can never be too cautious. In the event of a breakdown or accident, you should always be prepared to deal with the situation as fast as possible, so keeping a car emergency kit in the boot of your car at all times is recommended.

It’s not surprising that the fuel efficiency of the G63 is not the best. The statistics available show the car uses fuel at an EPA-rated 13 miles per gallon in the city, 15 mpg on the highway and 14 mpg combined. On the other hand, the previously mentioned Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic offers a combined mpg of 16. To put this into perspective, the smart EQ fortwo coupe is one of the most fuel-efficient cars available and has a combined MPG of 108.
If you do a lot of off-road driving or like the idea of making your car extra unique with the many customization options available, then this may be the just what you’re looking for. However, its fuel consumption and retail price do make it quite an expensive option. The Mercedes Benz 2019 G63 AMG did not disappoint as the latest addition to the G-Class range; however, it is not the perfect car.
